Red grape variety very popular in the centre and south of Portugal. It has several synonyms, among which Castelão Francês. In the last century it got the name of the region of Setúbal, where the wines produced with this grape became very famous. Today, it is still in Setúbal that this grape variety shows all its potential, producing wines with good colour, structure, aromas and flavours of red fruit and spices, sometimes with a remarkable complexity.
