Volatile
That is easily transformed into vapour.
 
Volatile acidity
Wine component that, when excessive, originates a vinegary aroma. The excess is the result of a lack of care during winemaking. Old wines tend to have a touch of volatile acidity.
 
Volume
A container's capacity. Law obliges one to mention the content of the casks in order to control the volume of wines stored in the cellar. The labels should also mention the bottles' content.
 
Volumetric alcohol content
Alcoholic strength by volume - Gay-Lussac degree: number of litres of ethanol in 100l of wine. Both volumes are measured at 20ºC; this percentage is expressed by the symbol "% vol.".
 
Voluptuous
Pasty, sensual, gluttonous, fruity and firm. Exciting, but with elegance and harmony.
 
VSOP
Acronym for Very Superior Old Pale. This designation appears on the labels of cognac or brandy aged for 5 to 9 years.
