Training Systems Pruning Tying Green Interventions

Lisboa wine region has experienced a considerable evolution in vine training systems. Trellis wires evolved to goblet training, which later gave place to the bilateral Royat cordon (in short pruning) or double or triple Guyot (in long pruning). During the 90s, one started to use wood or metal stakes as props and mobile double wires.

Colares is a particularity in the region, since the vines grow horizontally and near sandy soils. These vines have old wood arms from which canes grow through the soil, sometimes up to eight metres in length. At the beginning of veraison, the canes are lifted a few inches off the soil, supported on props.
