Training Systems Pruning Tying Green Interventions

In Madeira, the vine training system depended on the vine’s location. In the northern coast, one would see trees used as props; in the southern coast one would find trellised vines, i.e, vines displayed horizontally on cane or willow branches.

Today, the most used vine training system is the trellis (pergola), which has a height of 1 to 2 metres. However, some explorations use the espalier system, whose plantation density varies from 4000 to 5000 plants per hectare.
