Training Systems Pruning Tying Green Interventions

Several training systems coexist in the Vinhos Verdes region. The most ancient of all training systems consists of training the grapevine through a living prop, which is usually a tree resistant to deep pruning cuts, such as a poplar, oak or sweet chestnut. Later came the trellis, which is a system made up of (usually granite) vertical supports and wood or iron boards to which wires are attached and used to train the grapevine.

From 1970 onwards, several vine training systems were developed in the region, creating a significant expansion of the grapevine. More recently, one started to use single cordon training systems, as well as multiple cordon (which overlaps two vines).
