Structure Vegetative Cycle Rootstocks
Sélection Oppenheim n.º4 (SO4)
Origin Berlandieri x Riparia, seleccionado por Rodrian a partir do Teleki n.º4.
Young Branch End Semi-open, low density of prostrate hairs. Low, generalised anthocyanin pigmentation.
Young leaf Green with golden reflexes. Lower page of the fourth expanded leaf with low density of erect hairs between the ribs and medium density on the ribs. Low anthocyanin pigmentation of the first 6 leaves.
Shoot Red nodes and internodes on the dorsal side and green ones on the ventral side. No anthocyanin pigmentation of the buds.
Tendrils Medium length, trifurcated. Discontinuous regular distribution with 02 formula.
Flower Male.
Adult leaf Cuneiform, big and whole. Medium green with low anthocyanin pigmentation in the main ribs. Involute blade, low blistering. Short, rectilinear teeth. Wide U-shaped petiolar sinus. In young leaves, the petiolar sinus is V-shaped and not very open. Upper page with erect hairs on the ribs. Lower page with low density of erect hairs between the ribs and medium density on the ribs. Medium density of erect hairs on the petiole.
Flat, striated and redish brown.
Characteristics SO4 has a quick initial development and great vigour, therefore favouring fructification and anticipating the ripening of grapes. It is a good producer of wood and has a good response to rooting. The response to local grafting is good and better than that of rootstocks 161-49 C and 5 BB. Concerning hand grafting, results are only satisfactory. It shows good resistance to active limestone (17/18%) and adapts well to acid soils. It resists to the Meloidogynae type of nematodes, but has no resistance to salinity. It is fairly sensitive to drought and shows good resistance to moisture.
