Characteristics 420 A is known for being very vigorous and subject to an early exhaustion, due to intense fructification in the first years. This rootstock is appropriate fo the production of quality wines and table grapes. It shows good results in the production of wood, though it has thin rods with very developed branches. Its response to rooting is usually low. Local grafting shows good results, though the initial development is a little slow. Hand grafting is usually low. The rootstocks’ resistance to active limestone is of 20%. 420 A is recommended for fresh and fertile soils. It is reasonably resistant to drought and shows good resistance to moist.
