Origin Berlandieri Résséguier n.º 2 x Rupestris du Lot
Young Branch End Semi-open, low density of prostrate hairs. Medium, generalised anthocyanin pigmentation.
Young leaf Green with golden reflexes. Lower page of the fourth expanded leaf with low density of prostrate and erect hairs on the ribs, and low density of erect hairs between the ribs. Low anthocyanin pigmentation of the first six leaves.
Shoot Red nodes and internodes with low density of prostrate hairs. Low anthocyanin pigmentation of the buds.
Tendrils Medium length. Discontinuous regular distribution with 02 formula.
Flower Male.
Adult leaf Reniform, small and whole. Medium green with medium anthocyanin pigmentation in the main ribs. Involute blade, low blistering. Short, wide and convex teeth. Wide petiolar sinus with its base limited by the ribs. Glabrous lower page with low density of erect hairs on the ribs. Upper page with erect hairs on the main ribs. Low density of prostrate and erect hairs on the petiole.
Round, striated, dark brown.
Characteristics 1103 P is very vigorous. As its development is precocious, it is sometimes possible to graft it in the same year it is planted. It has a better response to rooting than 110 R and 140 Ru. This rootstock shows good results in local and hand grafting. It bears, in average, up to 17/18% active limestone and has some tolerance to salinity. 1103 P is sensitive to the gall form of phylloxera, but resistant to the Meloidogynae type of nematodes. It adapts well to acid soils and is very resistant to drought.
