5 C Teleki (5 C)
Origin Berlandieri x Riparia, seleccionado por Teleki.
Young Branch End Semi-open, low density of prostrate hairs. No anthocyanin pigmentation.
Young leaf Copper yellow. Medium density of erect hairs on the lower page of the fourth expanded leaf. Low anthocyanin pigmentation of the first six leaves.
Shoot Red nodes and internodes on the dorsal side and green ones on the ventral side. Low anthocyanin pigmentation of the buds.
Tendrils Medium length. Discontinuous regular distribution with 02 formula.
Flower Male.
Adult leaf Cuneiform, big and whole. Medium green. Involute blade, no blistering. Medium, rectilinear teeth. V-shaped petiolar sinus, not very open. Upper page with erect hairs on the ribs. Medium density of erect hairs on the lower page. Strong density of erect hairs on the petiole.
Flat, striated, dark brown.
Characteristics 5 C is a medium vigour rootstock. Its characteristics are similar to that of 5 BB, the only difference being that 5C is the most precocious rootstock of Berlandieri X Riparia. Consequently, grape varieties grafted with 5C have an earlier ripening. It is known to be a good producer of wood. The rootstocks’ resistance to active limestone is of about 20%. It is sensitive to drought and tolerates moisture and salinity. It is used in deep or medium depth soils of fine texture.
