Description	High quality red grape variety, recommended for the Monção sub-region, where it is more intensively cultivated. Productive and rustic, this grape variety produces light ruby to ruby colour, fragrant and harmonious wines. Synonymy: also known as «Padral», «Cainho», «Cainho dos Milagres», «Cainho Espanhol» or «Alvarinho Tinto» in Monção, as «Castelão» in Amarante, as «Pégudo» or «Perna de Perdiz» in Ponte de Lima and as «Pardal» in Castelo de Paiva; it is probably the «Pedral» of the Spanish Province Galicia. Budding	open, very cottony, white and with the margins slightly carmine.
Young leaf	yellow with bronze spots; bubbly, very cottony and carmine on the down side of the blade and pubescent on the upper side.
Flower	androgynous.
Shoots	red internodes and nodes on the back side, green internodes and red nodes on the frontal side; low anthocyanin pigmentation of the buds; erect to half-erect growth.
Tendrils	discontinuous, medium length and pubescent; separate, straight and sometimes directed backwards.
Adult leaf	medium size, wedge-shaped, with three lobes, irregular outline, dark green and medium bubbly; short and medium teeth, convex margins; petiolar sinus with overlapped lobes and with V shaped base, forming the typical "O", open upper lateral sinus with a V shaped base; very cottony on the down side; glabrous petiole, shorter than the medium main vein.
Bunch	medium size; conic and winged; medium compactness; medium length peduncle and medium lignification.
Berry	medium size and uniform; elliptic-short; dark blue colour; with bloom, thick skin and little apparent hilum; uncoloured, firm and little juicy pulp with a special flavour; medium long pedicel of easy separation.
Seeds	hard tegument, predominantly one per berry; medium size, pyriform, short and little pronounced beak.
Stalks	elliptic cross-section, striated surface, brown colour, vigorous and slightly angled; medium long internodes; big, large, cup-shaped and prominent buds.
