Description |
Low quality red grape variety with a culture area confined to the Monção and Lima sub-regions and with no representativeness. Highly productive, this grape variety produces undefined wines without quality.
Synonymy: also known as «Vinhão Mole», «Espadeiro da Terra» or «Espadeiro Femeeiro»; in Monção it is only known as «Espadeiro» and in Ponte de Lima as «Verdelho da Sombra».

Budding |
open, very cottony, white and with carmine margin.

Young leaf |
brass coloured with medium intensity anthocyanin pigmentation of the first six leaves; bubbly; very cottony on the down side of the blade, sometimes associated with carmine spots.

androgynous.

Shoots |
internodes with red striations and green nodes on the frontal side; green buds, half-erect to horizontal growth.

Tendrils |
discontinuous, medium length, webbed and separate.

Adult leaf |
medium size, wedge-shaped, entire, slightly presenting three lobes, dark green, irregular outline with slightly folded down margins, sometimes waved between the main veins; medium to strongly bubbly; medium length teeth and convex margins; slightly open to closed petiolar sinus with a U shaped base, sometimes limited by the vein next to the petiolar point; open upper lateral sinus with a V shaped base; cottony on the down side, glabrous petiole, longer than the medium main vein.

big; cylindrical-conic, very compact; long peduncle and medium lignification.

Berry |
medium size and uniform; round, sometimes slightly flattened; dark blue colour; with bloom, thin skin and little apparent hilum; uncoloured, soft and juicy pulp with a special flavour; short pedicel of easy separation.

Seeds |
little hard tegument, predominantly two per berry; big, round, short and pronounced beak.

Stalks |
elliptic cross-section, striated surface, yellow brownish colour, darker at the node's level; vigorous; medium to long internodes and large nodes; medium long, cup-shaped buds with a wide and prominent base.
