Description |
Medium quality red grape variety, authorised in the Monção, Lima and Braga sub-regions; little productive due to its susceptibility to cryptogamic diseases and rustic, it produces ruby to garnet-red colour wines, with an undistinctive aroma, full-bodied but without quality.
Synonymy: also known as «Folhal» and «Verdelho Doce»; as «Doçal Miúdo» and «Borralho» in Viana do Castelo and as «Espadeiro Doce» and «Doçal Aragão» in Monção.

Budding |
open, cottony,white and with carmine margin.

Young leaf |
brass coloured; very cottony on the down side of the blade and pubescent on the upper side.

Flower |
androgynous.

Shoots |
internodes and nodes with red striations on the back side and green on the frontal side, low anthocyanin pigmentation of the buds, erect to half-erect growth.

Tendrils |
discontinuous, medium length, pubescent and straight.

Adult leaf |
big, orbicular, with five lobes and sometimes with seven, medium green, irregular outline, wrinkled and waved next to the petiolar point, medium bubbly, long and medium sized teeth with convex margins; slightly open and wide petiolar sinus with a V shaped base, open upper lateral sinus with a V shaped base; erect hairs on the upper side, with a clear presence on the leaves margins; pubescent and slightly bristly on the down side, pubescent and slightly bristly petiole, shorter than the medium main vein.

medium size; winged, medium to strong compactness; short peduncle and insignificant lignification.

Berry |
medium size and uniform; elliptic-short, sometimes obovoid due to the berries compression; dark blue colour; with bloom, medium thick skin and apparent hilum; uncoloured, soft and juicy pulp with a simple flavour; medium long pedicel of easy separation.

Seeds |
little hard tegument, predominantly three per berry; big, round, short but well pronounced beak.

Stalks |
elliptic cross-section, striated surface, yellow brownish colour, darker at the node's level; long internodes; medium long, cup-shaped and prominent buds.
