Name Borraçal
Type of grape variety Red
Description Borraçal is one of the red grape varieties most grown in the region of Vinhos Verdes. It is planted in almost the entire region, where it is also known as Esfarrapa or Bogalhal, among other names.
This grape variety has small, tapered bunches. The berries are medium-sized, not uniform, and bluish-black.
Wines made from Borraçal are ruby coloured and have a high acidity level.

Budding open, cottony, white and the margin slightly carmine.
Young leaf green with bronze spots; bubbly; very cottony on the down side of the blade and pubescent on the upper side.
Flower androgynous.
Shoots internodes and nodes with red striations on the back side and green on the frontal side; green buds, half-erect to horizontal growth.
Tendrils discontinuous, short and webbed; very separated, vigorous and tangled.
Adult leaf medium size, pentagonal, with three lobes, flat, medium green and bubbly; medium length teeth and convex margins; petiolar sinus with completely overlapped and with a V shaped base; very cottony on the down side; pubescent petiole and shorter than the medium main vein.
Bunch small, conic and usually winged; medium compactness; medium length peduncle and medium lignification.
Berry medium size; irregular, round, dark blue colour, with bloom an apparent hilum; uncoloured, firm pulp, little juicy and with a special flavour; medium long pedicel of easy separation.
Seeds little hard tegument, predominantly two per berry; big, pyriform, short but little pronounced beak.
Stalks elliptic cross-section, striated surface, yellow brownish colour; medium long internodes; medium long, large, cup-shaped and prominent buds.
