  Grape characteristics
Name Tinta Caiada
Type of grape variety Red
Description Tinta Caiada is grown in several viticultural regions of Portugal. Due to its low viticultural and oenological quality, this grape variety hasn’t been cultivated in the new plantations. Tinta Caiada has medium-sized bunches and berries. It is very sensitive to rottenness and requires a hot climate for an adequate ripening. It is in Alentejo that this grape variety has produced the most interesting wines, because of the hot climate and high number of sun hours, which allow the berries to properly ripen. These wines are deep coloured, with good acidity and pleasant aromas of ripened fruit and vegetables.
