  Grape characteristics
Name Ramisco
Type of grape variety Red
Description Ramisco is characteristic of Colares. Its cultivation is very peculiar and laborious, since this grape variety is planted in a “sand floor” and without rootstocks (ungrafted). Ramisco’s vineyards are very close to the sea, near some big cities, and its cultivation was almost extinguished due to urban pressure, lack of labour and low productivity.
This grape variety is late-ripening. Its bunches are medium-sized, compact, made up of small, round berries.
The wines have a relatively low alcohol content (around 11º), high acidity and intense tannins. However, after ageing in bottle they become softer and very aromatic.
