Tinta Barroca, which is almost exclusively grown in Douro, is much used in the production of blend wines. Though it is one of the grape varieties that make up some Port wines, its monovarietal wines are not very well-known. Tinta Barroca is pretty popular among producers, since it is easy to grow and very productive. It is a grape variety of regular production and is resistant to diseases and pests. Besides all this, it is early-ripening and its berries contain a high concentration of sugar, resulting in wines with high alcoholic concentration. Wines produced from Tinta Barroca are easy to drink and have soft tannins. However, most of the time such wines are neither balanced nor deep.
