  Grape characteristics
Name Touriga Nacional
Type of grape variety Red
Description This is a noble grape variety, very appreciated in Portugal. Though initially grown in the Dão region, it rapidly expanded to the area of Douro, in order to be used in the production of Port. Recently, producers found out its value for the production of red table wines, so the cultivation of this grape variety was spread to other regions, such as Alentejo.
Touriga Nacional is of low production: it has many, but small bunches. The berries have a high concentration of sugar, colour and aromas.
Wines produced or blended with this grape variety are very balanced, alcoholic and have a good ageing potential.
