Name Verdelho Tinto
Type of grape variety Red
Description Medium quality red grape variety, authorised in almost the entire Demarcated Region, except for the Basto and Amarante sub-regions. Highly productive, this grape variety produces light ruby to ruby colour, characterless and unbalanced wines.

Synonymy: or simply «Verdelho», it is also known as «Verdelho Feijão» or «Feijão» in Viana do Castelo; it is the «Miudesso» in Arouca.

Budding open, cottony, white and with the margins slightly carmine.
Young leaf yellow with bronze spots; very cottony on the down side of the blade and pubescent on the upper side.
Flower androgynous.
Shoots green internodes and nodes, sometimes with red striations on the back side, and green on the frontal side; green buds; horizontal growth.
Tendrils discontinuous, medium length, pubescent and straight.
Adult leaf medium size, wedge-shaped, with three to five lobes, light green, irregular outline, slightly bubbly, short to medium length teeth with rectilinear margins; open petiolar sinus, sometimes only slightly open, with a V shaped base; open upper petiolar sinus with a V shaped base; very cottony on the down side; glabrous petiole, shorter than the medium main vein.
Bunch big; cylindrical-conic; medium compactness; medium length peduncle and insignificant lignification.
Berry small to medium size, uniform; obovoid; dark blue colour; with bloom, medium thick skin and apparent hilum; uncoloured, firm and little juicy pulp with a simple flavour; short pedicel of difficult separation.
Seeds hard tegument, predominantly three per berry; medium size, pyriform, short but well pronounced beak.
Stalks elliptic cross-section, striated surface, yellow brownish colour; medium long to short internodes; large nodes; medium long, sharp and prominent buds.
