Dois séculos e meio passados, aquela decisão inicial não só gerou uma sustentada excelência do vinho como, à laia de benefício colateral, criou uma paisagem única, de beleza e majestade suficientemente marcantes para merecer, em 2001, o galardão de património mundial da UNESCO. Actualmente, os que muito justamente receiam a excessiva dependência em relação à monocultura do vinho, paralelamente são levados a reconhecer o óbvio potencial, ao mesmo tempo complementar e alternativo, que hoje representa o turismo de qualidade, sendo já vários os empreendimentos que se vão consolidando, confirmando a existência desse novo filão.
